American cheese holds a special place in the world of foods. It is made up of processed cheese, that one prepares by mixing cheddar or other similar base with sodium citrate, an additive that preserves everything unique while processed. One receives something mild creamy and especially salty with medium firmness, that melts almost surprisingly.

What Is American Cheese and How It Is Made
What separates American cheese from average cheddar blocks, is that it builds on cheese sauce, that one hardened. One finds products labeled simply “American Cheese” and others as “processed cheese product”, and they clearly do knot match.
American cheese suffered a bad reputation, genuinely. The word got linked with false, harmful foods in many peoples opinions. Even so that is not entirely fair.
Real American cheese, although processed, can be an actual excellent product. The problem lies in that, that products under the label “American Cheese” differs a lot according to the amount of milk fat, oil and water in them, they can have different tastes according to those amounts.
Kraft Singles, those individual wrapped slices, store a lot of calcium and do not have artificial preservatives or artificial flavors. They work for roasted cheese or for adding in macaroni with cheese. White American cheese slices offer an alternative and work well for hamburgers and sandwiches, or even simply eaten from the package.

Portions range according to the brand, everywhere. Most slices weigh between 16 and 28 grams. A portion of 16 grams has around 60 calories, while 28 grams gets close to 94 calories.
