Nespresso offers his range in two mainstream lines: the Original Line and the Vertuo Line. For that brave, traditional style of espresso, the Original Line answers perfectly. The Vertuo system on the other hand?
It targets clients that want diversity, espresso, of course but also mixes from one place and various tastes from the whole world.
Nespresso Vertuo and Original Lines
Here is what makes Vertuo this practical. Every pod has a barcode printed around the edge. You put in the pod, close the cover, and the machine reads it right away.
Then it takes care of everything. The amount of water, spin speed, brew time, all of that. You do not need to care about settings or sizes.
Simply press the button and walk away.
Vertuo machines work with five different sizes of pods. There is espresso at 1.35 ounces, then double espresso at 2.7 ounces. Bigger are the Gran Lungo at around 5.7 ounces, while normal coffee pours about 7.7 ounces.
The large one reaches 14 ounces, and for a group we have even an 18-ounce carafe. In the Original Line, even the simplest model, the Pixie, offers two options: 40-milliliter espresso or 110-milliliter lungo.
Only pods for espresso work for drinks on a base of milk, like latte, macchiato and cappuccino. Double espresso pods? They simply carry a double dose of caffeine.
Among popular choices are Arpeggio, which mixes force with smoothness. Ristretto has full body and strength. Roma is simple, no fancy stuff, but faithful and easy for everyone.
Melozio has medium strong intensity, that lasts, and it belongs to the bestsellers. For a full cup with good taste without bitterness, Odacio serves well. Stormio gives a bit more fource with rich support of taste.
Except from nespresso, compatible pods come from Starbucks, Peet’s and Illy. Starbucks makes Vertuo pods in all roasts from light to dark, using arabica mixes. Peet’s offers their signature dark espresso in recyclable pods, and they are not tied with nespresso.
The intense and classic versions of Illy cost 15 to 20 cents less per pod then the mainstream of nespresso.
nespresso also launches limited editions of pods. The Home Barista option comes as a two-pack for Vertuo. Barista Creations include flavored options, like vanilla, caramel and chocolate espresso pods.
Ordering directly from the website of nespresso is the safest way for variety. Amazon works well, with many sellers and good deals. A pack of 50 pods for the Original Line ships free and carries rich arabica mixes.
Keep in mind though, that counts only fornespresso machines, not for rivals like Cafeitalia.
