Babybel cheese is a funny idea for food, that comes individually and that works great for lunches, whether home or during travel. The classic Mini Babybel is made up of cheese in the style of Edam. Although it offers several types today, like Gouda or cheddar, the basic recipe stays a French version of Dutch Edam cheese.
One makes it from pasteurized milk, vegetable rennet, dairy cultures and salt. The process to make Edam cheese follows the traditional method only that the rennet comes from plant sources instead of animal ones.
About Babybel Cheese
Babybel are made up of 100% natural cheese. It does not belong to processed cheese products. The shape of the cheese forms, pressed in molds, show clearly, something that never happens with processed cheese.
The texture of the cheese is creamy and smooth, what makes it a real plesaure to eat. It ranks between the semi-soft cheeses and holds protein together with calcium.
One finds more than eight different tastes. The version with black wrapping carries strong white cheddar. There is also Gouda in orange wrapping and mozzarella in green.
There is even a version based on plant method. The bits from plant do not have strong smell when one unwraps them. They can slightly remind you of the taste of the wax, but if one leaves them to heir a bit before eating, that helps.
The taste improves, if one combines them with crackers, apples, grapes or nuts.
The red wax creates protection around the cheese and works like a shell. The plastic wrapping keeps the wax from damage because of stacking or bumping. The wax itself comes from a mix of paraffin waxes and microcrystalline wax.
It is not for eating, but one can chew it. Making little sculptures from the wax is popular fun. Heart shapes, heads of horses, all kinds of patterns.
Babybel cheese is commonly used in salads and sandwiches. It goes well with crackers and fruits or simply alone. Fun ways to eat it include mixing it with roasted pumpkin seeds.
For something creative, one can coat shattered Babybel bits in beaten egg and crushed Doritos pieces, then air fry them, that works well. Double coating in the breadcrumb and egg mix stops the cover from falling. If one leaves distance between the bits in the air fryer, every side becomes crisp.
Melting it on a tortilla, one gets a fastquesadilla.
